Within and Without
Black stoneware clay, alginate bioplastics, and rope.
“Clay is a wonderful thing, and particularly ceramics... it enables us to live within and without form.” - Magdalene Odundu
Four handbuilt ceramic headrests, tools that are used to encourage rest and sleep. Each headrest is connected to the dreamer it belongs to, and is a reflection of their dreams and subconscious mind. There lies the dreamer’s memories, emotions, deepest desires, and fears in its truest state.
Within and Without is a meditation on the genealogy of sustenance, dream worlds and the rituals that hold us. Related to the intimacy of touch, Within and Without brings together artists and makers to mould objects, motifs and shapes that trace geographic, spiritual and creative belonging/unbelonging. Curated by Sarah Edo.
Exhibited at Whippersnapper Gallery.
